Many know actor, comedian Gerald Kelly for various reasons, but the one that he holds the highest acclaim for is being a stand-up comic with the gift to help people through their life's challenges. The gift that he has isn't just to make people laugh, but to make them cry; cry tears of joy, releasing frustrations of hurt, pain and sometimes defeat. He holds this to be the true purpose for his career as a comedian.
If you haven’t heard of this
comedic genius in the arena of Comedy, you haven’t heard from one of the
greatest that ever did it. The joke about not being the homework parent, but
trying to do his son’s homework for him is classic. His son ends up coming home
crying about his grade that he received from that assignment, which was not
one, but two zeros. When asked by his dad, why did get ‘two’ zeros, the boy
explained, “One is for me and one is for you”… and that is just one joke of
many that helped build a great career in Stand-Up Comedy.
Gerald Kelly has performed across the country as well as in exotic locations that one might have on their bucket list to visit. Russell Simmons called him the “funniest
comedian in the country”, but for Gerald, it's not just about 'being funny', but what you do with it that makes a difference.
Let's step back for just a sec...Gerald's not new to this game, just true to it. He comes from humble beginnings;
born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx by a single-mother, he knew all too well
what bullying looked like as the kids would make fun of his apparel. Gerald
soon learned how to ‘beat the bullies’, not so much physically with his hands,
but with his words, he used what most comics and others known as “Snapping” aka
“Yo Momma Jokes” to get back at those that wanted to talk about him. He began
to gain popularity as the “funny dude” in school and as he became an adult..the funny never left him.

Matter-of-factly, he got his
start after classmate and fellow colleague, Tracy Morgan,
introduced him into the world of comedy. He went on to perform on HBO's Def
Comedy Jam, Comedy Central and BET’s Comic View, but garnered success with the
Showtime special “Chocolate Sundaes” hosted by Tommy Davidson and recently
appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing 'Season 8' as one of 28 semi-finalists.
Gerald has played many roles on film and on stage with movies such as, "Death
of a Dynasty, “Cookout 2” and is best known as One Punch in the movie “Budz
House” as well as “Budz House Backstage” which features Kevin Hart. He took his funny and
hit the airwaves as a co-host for 107.5 WBLS (Los Angeles) and in Hartford,
Connecticut at Hot 93.7 WZMX as part of the Morning Team, play such roles as 'Grandma' and latin-lover 'Tahata'.

Today, Kelly enjoys a successful
career as a comedian and performer. He continues to hone his acting skills to
advance on landing both big and small screen roles. He enjoys making people
find hope in laughter; his first love is God, family and then comedy, but his
passion is and will always be to bring joy to people's lives.
Kevin Hart said it best, 'Laugh at my Pain' and that is just what Gerald Kelly does. He takes his everyday life's situations, challenges and concerns and shares it in such a way that only a comedic genius could.
Whether it's telling jokes on stages across the country, playing roles in movies or heading up his initiatives to combat, gun violence, violence against women or encouraging fathers to play active roles in their children's lives; he encourages audiences both on and off stage to make a change in their situations; making a better world to live in for all...such a huge task; but worth every moment.
