Getting Intimate with Mara Hunter

As a true Indie Soul Head, I was influenced by such artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Eric Roberson,  Foreign Exchange, Lalah Hathaway, Wes Felton, and Raheem Devaughn! Their songs were the soundtrack to my journey as a music journalist. Their words inspired the love that lies deep down in the belly of my soul and their songs ignited the passion to write about their musical interludes of life: love, pain, passion, and sex.

My plight aligned with theirs and I wanted, so deeply to help share their stories and tell their truths to an audience of both known and unknown. I wanted to bring a balance to the spotlight in the music industry, and I did just that by writing for such publications as Total Eclipse Magazine, The Soul Letter, and Lioness Magazine, as well as simply writing on my personal blog.

Then, LIFE happened. I got married and began focusing my attention on the needs of my spouse and our family. In that wonderful transition, I began to lose the essence of who I was. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my family. They are my heartbeat and the motivation for what I do and how I move, however; it left little time to continue my expression of life through my writing and journalism.

My truth: My blog, www.MaraHunter.blogspot.com, is my intimate portrayal of my life, love, and experiences with Soul music, and I've now found a way to successfully integrate it with the many important, moving pieces of my heart's desire. I LOVE MUSIC! I breathe it, so delicately and embrace the many faces of its quintessence. I encompass the many stories that are shared by these beautiful storytellers, and I look to share these intimate experiences with you here.

I want to thank the inspirers and galvanizers for continuing to lace my life with timeless music. You continue to be the soundtrack to my life, the pep in my step, the tears in my eyes, and the smile of my heart.

I LOVE real music, that which comes from the soul---R&B, Old Skool, feel-good music; independently given to our collective souls.

Thank you!

Mara Hunter Soul

Comedian Gerald Kelly Gives the Gift of Laughter and So Much More...

Many know actor, comedian Gerald Kelly for various reasons, but the one that he holds the highest acclaim for is being a stand-up comic with the gift to help people through their life's challenges. The gift that he has isn't just to make people laugh, but to make them cry; cry tears of joy, releasing frustrations of hurt, pain and sometimes defeat. He holds this to be the true purpose for his career as a comedian. If you haven’t heard of this comedic genius in the arena of Comedy, you haven’t heard from one of the greatest that ever did it. The joke about not being the homework parent, but trying to do his son’s homework for him is classic. His son ends up coming home crying about his grade that he received from that assignment, which was not one, but two zeros. When asked by his dad, why did get ‘two’ zeros, the boy explained, “One is for me and one is for you”… and that is just one joke of many that helped build a great career in Stand-Up Comedy.   Ge...
