Crystal Senter Brown 



Crystal Senter-Brown, has been featured in Redbook Magazine, Vibe Magazine and Essence Magazine and has been a performance poet and writer for most of her life. Born in Morristown, TN to a bass-playing Baptist preacher (Dad) and a visual artist (Mom), Crystal performed her first poem onstage at the age of six. Since then, she has performed at thousands of events and has shared the stage with many performers such as M.C. Lyte, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Ruby Dee, Nona Hendrix and more.

Crystal's the recipient of several awards including a fellowship in poetry from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Black Leadership Alliance Community Service Award, the Bay Path College Pathfinder award, the National Points of Light Community Service Award and the Harold Grinspoon Award for her children's book Gabby Saturday. She is the founder of the Ella Louise Backpack Project, which provides backpacks and school supplies to homeless children in the Springfield, MA area.


She is the author of five books: But Now I See (Dec. 2014), But You Have Such a Pretty FaceDoubledutch, Gabby Saturday and "The Rhythm in Blue,” which was made into a full-length film. Her stage credits include The Vagina Monologues and playing Glinda the Good Witch in The Wiz.  Her poetry has appeared in the following published anthologies His Rib (Penmanship Press) and Wordplay II (Bravin Publishing.) 

She also has released three music cd's Bees are Admired (2001), Easybreezybeautifulcoloredgirl (2003) and Mojo (2005.) Crystal is also a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

She is currently working on "When Skies are Gray" and a how-to guide for aspiring writers.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (2012) and a Masters Degree (2014)  in Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy from Bay Path University and is currently and adjunct professor in the Women as Empowered Leaders and Learners program. 

When she's not writing, performing or saving the world, she lives in New England with her husband Corey, son Adonte and a Maniac dog named Venus Brown. 

Crystal Senter Brown is our Poet's Spotlight Artist. I have had the good fortune to know and have worked with this phenomenal women. And I'm sure after reading a line or two from a poem, a chapter from her book or CD, you'll fall in love with this lady that rocks the mic!!!

Many know actor, comedian Gerald Kelly for various reasons, but the one that he holds the highest acclaim for is being a stand-up comic with the gift to help people through their life's challenges. John Legend & Common  Bring It Home at the Oscars "Be the light that you want people to see" Two shining stars received their stripes or should we say, shiny Oscar tonight for the song, "GLORY" for the Film, Selma . The movie was excellent, passionate and very real. And so wasn't Common and John Legend's stirring performance and moving acceptance speech as they won the Academy Award for Best Original Song tonight.
