The Heartbeat of the City

Hello World!!!

It's been a minute since I've been on my blog and boy oh boy, do I have some news for you...

First off, the new Issue of Total Eclipse Magazine hits the streets in just a couple of weeks!!! Guess who is on our cover??? Here's a hint: This artist is someone that I've blogged about and has such a unique voice & spirit, that they deserve to get some shine!!! Stay tuned and subscribe now to Total Eclipse here.

Also, I've just been asked to contribute to the E-zine, Lioness Magazine!!! First issue due to drop in August....Thanks to Natasha Clark for thinking of me!!!

Big Shout Out!!! to Mrs. "Boss" Lady herself, Syleena Johnson for a exciting interview and a look into her personal life as a mother, wife, entrepreneur, artist, songwriter and much, much more!!! We as black women sometimes, OK, most times, wear many hats. Let me just say, anyone who could simultaneously, record and/or perfect a track up in the studio, hold down an interview and the kids all in one sitting is definitely a Boss!! So, big shout out to my girl Syleena for doing the damn thing and doing it well.

Also, word in the City is that she will be on the R&B Housewives, along with Faith Evans, Tweet, KeKe Wyatt and others...you'll just have to wait for the official article to drop in Lioness Magazine for confirmation on that, updates on all that she's been doing and your chance to win $1,000!!! In the meantime make sure you check out & download her new single, "A Boss"
by clicking here.

Don't forget to cop her new Album, Chapter V: Underrated out on September 27th, 2011!!!

Next Up!!! I'd like to congratulate Monica and her husband, NBA Lakers, Shannon Brown on their marriage (for the second time!!!), last weekend! This time before family, friends and many loved ones...here's the footage, courtesy of The Insider!!

Congratulations to the beautiful couple, I wish you all the best!!!! Shannon, you got the right one for life!!! Uh, huh!

In other Monica news...[as reported by IntheA.com]

Monica’s Missy Elliott produced track “Any (To Find You)” has been put on ice… indefinitely!
The song, which was featured on The “A” Pod a few days ago, samples Notorious B.I.G.’s “Who Shot Ya?” and features raps from Rick Ross and Lil Kim.
[LISTEN: Monica ~ "Any (To Find You)" ft. Rick Ross & Lil Kim]
Apparently Biggie’s mom, Voletta Wallace. cleared the sample for use, but (peep this) she retracted the clearance once she found out Lil Kim was on the song.
Wallace isn’t putting a stop to the entire song, just the 16 bars that Lil Kim laid down on the track.
Monica hit up Twitter to express her disappointment in Ms. Wallace’s decision and said she’s going to do whatever it takes to keep Lil Kim on the project…

Listen Here:

Best of luck to all of them and I hope they come to a sound decision, because I've heard the track and it is hot to def as is!!!

Until next time, Peace, Love and Soul...

Yours Truly,

Mara Hunter

Comedian Gerald Kelly Gives the Gift of Laughter and So Much More...

Many know actor, comedian Gerald Kelly for various reasons, but the one that he holds the highest acclaim for is being a stand-up comic with the gift to help people through their life's challenges. The gift that he has isn't just to make people laugh, but to make them cry; cry tears of joy, releasing frustrations of hurt, pain and sometimes defeat. He holds this to be the true purpose for his career as a comedian. If you haven’t heard of this comedic genius in the arena of Comedy, you haven’t heard from one of the greatest that ever did it. The joke about not being the homework parent, but trying to do his son’s homework for him is classic. His son ends up coming home crying about his grade that he received from that assignment, which was not one, but two zeros. When asked by his dad, why did get ‘two’ zeros, the boy explained, “One is for me and one is for you”… and that is just one joke of many that helped build a great career in Stand-Up Comedy.   Ge...
